Brookside IB 7/8 Geography

The IB 7/8 is the multi-grade component of Brookside Middle School.  Our team takes an innovative approach to learning by utilizing technology to provide a challenging educational experience for students in all curriculum areas.  Our curriculum is covered in a cycle of interdisciplinary units, which means all 4 subject areas will collaborate together to develop activities and projects in order for students to "go deeper" into the curriculum and to maximize student success.

There are several benefits of multi-grade grouping, including the formation of long-term relationships, continuity, and a family atmosphere.  Our team embraces the philosophy of teaching our students to become self sufficient learners, as self-learning generates more conifidence and autonomy in the students.  Students on our team experience a stronger sense of community and security, especially amongst the younger students who are new to the team because there are older students who have the opportunity to mentor them and "show them the ropes" of the mutli-grade team.
